William J. Libby - Bio
William J. Libby is president of Libby Communications. Founded in 1984, Libby Communications specializes in serving clients in the aerospace industry.
Mr. Libby began his career in 1974 at Marsteller, Inc., in Chicago, IL, where he trained as a copywriter and account executive on a number of industrial accounts. Four years later, he joined Crain Communications as marketing manager to help launch Crain’s Chicago Business, the nation’s first regional business publication.
In 1980, he joined General Electric as a Creative Director in the firm’s Oak Brook, IL office. Subsequently, Bill did stints in GE’s Louisville, KY, Washington, DC, and Norwalk, CT offices. His responsibilities included work for virtually every business sector, including GE’s jet engine and “Factory with a Future” businesses.
In 1984, Bill left GE to start his own firm, Libby Communications. Today the firm specializes in media relations, publicity, direct mail and advertising. Over the course of his career, Bill has written and/or placed more than 250 feature stories, by-lined articles and editorials for clients.
Experienced as a marketing communications strategist, Bill has executed comprehensive marketing communications plans with elements that have included: publicity, corporate identity programs, brochures, trade shows, direct mail, advertising, sales presentations, newsletters, audio-visual presentations, customer surveys and speechwriting. Bill has established strategic marketing communications alliances for his clients with a number of publications and industry associations.
Bill’s advertising work has won awards from Design News, Production Engineering, Instrument and Control Systems, Business Digest, Iron Age, ComputerWorld, Datamation and Infosystems. He has won a Nutmegger Award for best ad insert from the CT Chapter of the BMA and a copywriting award from the International Association of Business Communicators. His public relations writing has resulted in cover stories and/or major placements in such publications as Incast, Aviation Week & Space Technology, JOM, Advanced Materials & Processes, Casting Design and Application, Quality, Purchasing, Tooling & Production, Assembly Magazine, Foundry Management & Technology, Foundry Trade Journal, Cast Metal Times, Casting Plant & Technology, American Metal Market, and Forging.
Bill has spoken at many locations across the country as a participant in the McGraw-Hill seminar on “How to Increase the Effectiveness of Business Advertising.” He has also created his own seminar on target marketing, which he has presented to numerous businesses.
